Diana Rowland has captured two of my favorite things in her White Trash Zombie series: Urban fantasy and a smart, flawed female character who can kick some butt when needed. Angel Crawford considers herself a loser, so it's no surprise to her when other people do too. She's a high school dropout who's on probation (mostly for trusting the wrong loser boyfriend) and now she has to adjust to being a zombie as well.

She's doing pretty well. She has a cool zombie boyfriend, her home life is rocky but improving, and she works for the morgue -- mostly bringing in bodies -- which is a handy job for a zombie with a major need for fresh brains. It's all looking up until a body is stolen on Angel's watch, and Angel is trashed in the newspaper. Determined to do something -- Angel soon finds herself digging into conspiracies that powerful people (and zombies) are willing to kill to protect.

I loved the voice of Angel. She's a fantastic main character -- a smart girl who is slowly coming to really know herself. I love the mythology of zombism in the book as I always enjoy a new twist on an old supernaturalpremise. And the plot is fast-paced and delightfully twisty. For any urban fantasy lover, this book will be a slightly gory treat. I know I enjoyed every brainy bit.
