Here is an author for every reader. This man has written
an unbelievable number of novels and stories in just about any genre you
can mention from mystery and horror to sci-fi, westerns, and even romances
and young adult and children's stories.
My
personal favorites are his Hap and Leonard yarns, and I just finished
reading his latest -- Devil Red. Like all the other books in
that series, it is hilarious, exciting, filled with fast action and compelling,
weird characters. Hap is an opinionated, sarcastic, white heterosexual.
His best friend is Leonard, a bull-headed, blunt, black, homosexual. Joe
tells his stories with precise description, and unbeatable humor and wit.
There is plenty of violence and suspense, with the bad guys getting just
what they have coming to them.
A hardcore Texan, Joe is, above all other things, a champion storyteller.
His awards include sixteen Bram Stoker Awards, the Grand Master Award
from the World Horror Convention, a British Fantasy Award, the American
Mystery Award, the Horror Critics Award, the Grinzane Cavour Prize for
Literature, the "Shot in the Dark" International Crime Writer’s
Award, the Golden Lion Award, the Booklist Editor’s Award, the Critic’s
Choice Award, and a New York Times Notable Book Award.
Aside from his writing, he’s a two-time inductee into the International
Martial Arts Hall of Fame, one such honor for his founding of Shen
Chuan, Martial Science. He holds belts in Daito Ryu Aikijujutsu, Combat
Hapkido, American Combat Kempo, and Aikido. Joe's normal day is six hours
at the typewriter, three hours at Lansdale’s Self Defense Systems,
the martial-arts studio which he owns and at which he teaches.
