Since this is nonfiction book about a member of the armed service, many may assume only those in the armed service will take interest -- not at all. I recommend it to anyone interested in the freedom of America, to anyone interested in how the army works, to women who need advice about the infamous on-the-job glass ceiling, and to men needing a strong lesson as to why we need more women in our armed services.

Claudia J. Kennedy takes her audience from the day of her retirement back to her college days and the time she took an interest in the army. She shares how her parents helped to mold one of America's three-star generals. She talks about her first years in the army assigned to clerical duties, and how she discovered the pleasure of recruiting America's youngest and brightest women to join the Women's Army Corps after she was denied a chance to lead her own troop. Kennedy tells what it was like to live and desire more than a woman was allowed in an armed service which catered to men. Throughout her story, she reminds us that her true goal was military intelligence - a rare decision in her day. She also repeats the story of how she stopped the promotion of a general who was known for sexual harassment.

In retelling her 32-year career, Kennedy shows women they are worthy of their jobs and choosing a career is ok. As Kennedy relates her own stories about war and life on the home front, she reveals the strength and weakness of our Army and government. She also relates how much technology has helped America, but if not controlled and monitored, technology could cause tremendous problems in the future. Her thoughts and advice are sound. Americans will be enlightened about their country and one branch of their armed services when reading General Claudia J. Kennedy's amazing autobiography.
