Rise, Let Us Be on Our Way
By John Paul II
Read
by Kristoffer Tabori
“Let us go forth full of trust
in Christ. He will accompany us as we journey toward the goal
that He alone knows.” – John Paul II
And
only He alone knew that Karol Wojtyla of Wadowice, Poland, would
one day become Pope John Paul II. In Rise, Let Us be On Our Way,
Pope John Paul II shares the highlights of his life with us: his
childhood, his love of life, theater, singing, reading, kayaking,
traveling, service and God.
The
Pope’s love for theater, singing, and reading came from his
childhood. His father’s love of reading was passed on to him
as a child, and the Pope saw this as a gift to be used in earnest,
to learn and share. The Pope also enjoyed traveling and kayaking.
At one point, as he moved up in the church, he worried that he would
have to give up kayaking, but he didn’t.
The
Pope’s priority has always been his walk with God and his
main passion in his journey has been serving God’s people.
He loves people. The Pope mentioned disagreeing with the changes
others are promoting in the Catholic Church, such as abandoning
celibacy. Priests are lonely, some say, but the Pope disagrees,
saying that as a servant of God’s people, he is never alone.
This highly-educated Pope has lived a cultured life in his service.
In his writing, he expresses himself in an Old World fashion that
is refreshing and impressive.
Actor
and director Kristoffer Tabori narrates the audio book. He has appeared
on TV, Broadway and in films. Tabori’s reading is unhurried.
His reading matches The Pope’s writing voice.
