I'm Just a DJ But...
It Makes Sense to Me
by Tom Joyner
Known as "the hardest working man in radio," Tom Joyner has come a long way since he
was born in Tuskegee. He wasn't much of a student, but he did learn a lot of things about
life. These are the things he shares in his book, I'm Just a DJ But... It Makes Sense
to Me. Most of his observations are just common sense things he has learned about
living. He has learned the value of an education. Though he was not an outstanding student,
he did graduate from the Tuskegee Institute. Joyner wishes every black child could go
to college. He especially wants them to attend a historically black college or university.
He feels it is important for them to learn their heritage as well as the fundamental
blocks of education that will get them through life.
One of the things he learned is how to make money. He says, "Set out to provide something
people want or need." He was very good at finding things people wanted or needed. He is
now a multimillionaire and is still providing a radio show with humor and music for millions
of fans.
That observation is only one of many that he makes. Though his advice is intended for
the black community, it is equally applicable to every race. Many of his observations
are comical, but there's a grain of truth in each one. Joyner is not a professional author,
but he writes as though he were sitting in front of you having a normal conversation. I
found this book quite enjoyable. With humor and insight, he gave us all some sound lessons
on getting through life in one piece. Those of African-American descent will enjoy this
book thoroughly, as will those of all races. Pick up a copy up and give a listen. |
