Let Me Tell You A Story
A Lifetime in the Game

By Red Auerbach and John Feinstein
Read by Arnie Mazer

For four years, best-selling sports author John Feinstein spent his Tuesday afternoons with the same people, most notably, the most successful coach in NBA history, Red Auerbach. Auerbach has always been famously opinionated and funny. Let Me Tell You A Story details Feinstein's four years of lunches with one of the most engaging people in sport.

The China Doll in Washington D.C. Eleven o'clock. That's where and when the group met and when Auerbach took center stage, regaling his guests with stories about his coaching days, his famous friendships and just about anything else he felt like talking about. Nothing was off limits, as Auerbach relished being the center of attention and wowing his guests with his stories. Feinstein has done a brilliant job in capturing Auerbach's voice as well as his personality. The art of story telling has gradually lost its pedigree over the last few generations, as technology has taken over for the spoken word. Feinstein shows us in this book that nothing is as engaging or entertaining as a true story teller.

In this abridged audio version, Arnie Mazer does an excellent job of capturing the feel of the book. His smooth narration puts us in the middle of Auerbach's stories, making us feel as if we were one of the fortunate few to have been invited to these lunches. This really feels like a book that is meant to be listened to rather than read, as the voice and art of story telling are so important to the book and Mazer handles the task like a pro.

This is a great listen not only for sports fans, but for anyone who's ever marveled at anyone's ability to tell an entertaining story. Auerbach is as good as it gets.
