A Spiritual Journey
by Jane Goodall
With Phillip Berman
Jane Goodall writes about her life as a child, her homeland of England, her travels, and
how she ended up in Africa watching chimps for a living. She generously shares how it
affected her personal life as a wife and mother and molded her as an animal activist.
She talks about the various chimps and how each affected her and taught her something
important. Goodall uses her chimps as examples when she comes up against researchers
caging chimps for research. It's heartbreaking as she recounts the sadness of the animals
she visits in the research centers. Goodall is honest and quite personal as she recounts
her marriages and raising her child -- sometimes in the wild. She's lived a fascinating
life and continues her activist work today.
Goodall reads the audio version. I wasn't sure about sitting still for an audio book
on researching chimps, but I found Goodall's gentle British spirit delivering her convictions,
personal insights and tragedies quite mesmerizing. |
