Keep the Faith
A Memoir
by Faith Evans with Aliya S. King
Totally a world apart from the Hip Hop music genre as both a listener and interested star gazer, I did find Faith’s
book interesting. She began her memoir, or diary, as I read it, with the March 1997 death of her R&B husband "Big"
or B.I.G. Smalls, as he was known to many. Although I have no idea who he was and will probably be shamed for
writing this review, I learned a lot about him, her, and the R & B music business through her memoir.
I found her to be an honest writer with some gained wisdom and a renewed spirit in her telling of the story of
her life with and without Big. She obviously wrote the book to set rumors straight and find some solace for both
her and her son after years of lamenting over misconceptions of her role as wife and artist.
If you are a Hip Hop or R & B fan you will enjoy this insightful and meaningful memoir. And, if you are
interested in the more personal side of music makers and shakers you will no doubt know and follow the people in it.
She gives the reader an insider's journey from her beginnings to her rise in the industry. I thought it was a
well-written, if not always simple, and heartfelt read. |
