Matthew J. Pallamary grew up in an Irish-Catholic ghetto in the Dorchester section of Boston, MA. His father's
evasiveness made the family’s life increasingly chaotic. They moved frequently because his father failed to pay the
rent and wanted to stay one step ahead of the leg breakers or whomever else he had ripped off. After his parents
divorced, he grew up on welfare and was surrounded by violence. He saw many friends he had grown up with die violent
deaths.
He experimented with a variety of drugs during his life and joined the military as soon as he possibly could. He
continued to lead a life filled with crime; shameful acts that he allowed himself to be a part of and drugs. But he
always believed that his heart was still a good one. Meanwhile, the struggle between light and darkness continued
to rage on inside of him.
During his adult years, he became involved with shamanism and ethno botany (humanity's relationship to plants)
"the god within the plant that brings out the god within you." Matthew J. Pallamary goes into great detail about
his experiences with these "plants," etc.
Spirit Matters started off at a quick, interesting and meaningful pace but soon fizzled out. The last
third of the book was pretty "out there" and just wouldn't make much sense to the average person.
