The Accountant's Story is the true story of drug kingpin Pablo Escobar, head of the Medelin
drug cartel in Colombia, as told by his brother, Roberto. Roberto was the older of the two, and spent
his life trying to protect and help his little brother.
Roberto had his own dreams. He loved to race bicycles. It was his dream to be a champion bike racer,
build and sell his own style of bikes, and coach the national bike racing team. With hard work, he
finished his education, studying accounting in college. By that time, he had achieved his first dream.
Meanwhile, Pablo had a dream of his own. He simply wanted enough money so that his family would
never live in poverty again. He chose to follow in his bootlegging great grandfather's footsteps, after
a fashion. He began smuggling contraband for sale on the black market. As always, Roberto was there to
help. He kept books on Pablo's business as well as his own bicycle manufacturing business.
The Accountant's Story offers new insight into the life of one of the world's most notorious
criminals. The characters are real people committing real crimes in the name of business. They never
saw themselves as criminals. They were just businessmen. Roberto maintains that he committed no crime
and tried to distance himself from the drugs. The story is well told and reads like a crime novel.
I found the story fascinating. So, if you love mysteries, The Accountant's Story is a must-read.
If you wonder why criminals do what they do, it gives some insight into that too. See for yourself.
