Destruction of Innocence
A True Story of Child Abduction

by Rosalie Hollingsworth

This could be any mother’s story. Author Rosalie Hollingsworth has written a painful account of her daughter’s abduction by her estranged Italian husband. Triana was only one year old the first time that she was abducted. Eighteen months later, Rosalie’s husband contacted her and she went to Paris to meet him. There she drugged him, and took her baby back to the United States. Six years later, the nightmare began again when she let down her guard and allowed him to visit. This time he disappeared into the jungles of South America.

Rosalie never gave up. She kept her determination and, without help from the police, brought her child back home safely at age eleven. However, the struggle did not end the day Rosalie found her daughter and brought her home. Triana was not the baby she once had known. She did not know her mother, could not speak English, and had to face a new culture in the home of strangers. Through therapy and love she survived her ordeal and is now in her forties, a beautiful woman, still remembering the disjointed life she endured. She says she would still like to visit the South American home she shared with her father, but has no plans to reunite with him, just yet. She describes her story as a "jungle girl comes home." For Rosalie, this was a journey she had to take. She wrote the book to give hope to other parents who feel helpless in the face of child abduction.

I was completely engrossed from cover to cover. I enjoyed the author’s writing style, as it was not filled with flowery adjectives, but honest reflection. The depiction and dialogue was refreshing and, as I read from page to page, I felt as if I was sitting in Rosalie’s living room listening to her relate her story over coffee. If you don’t get the chance to read it, there’s a chance it may be a television movie in the future.
