Author Russ Baker details evidence about the history of the Bush family that many people,
if not most, will have never read or heard of before. He conducted what was evidently a
lengthy and painstaking investigation, and backs up his research with a well-annotated
58-page list of sources and dates.
Conspiracy theorists and history buffs alike will enjoy reading all about the Bush clan’s
finances, politics and connections to intelligence agencies. It is clear that the author
must have an encyclopedic memory to be able to keep all of the information in this book
categorized so that the reader can follow along. The cast of characters is huge, and I was
somewhat taken aback by just how deeply the "good old boys" network seems to run.
I found one of the more interesting aspects in a letter that Barbara Bush apparently wrote
while she was at her hairdresser’s. She was writing to family when the news announced that
President John F Kennedy had been shot. The letter continues on as she learns that the
President has died, and she even comments that she and Poppy (George H. W. Bush) hope that it
is "not some far right, but a commie nut." They also hope that "it is not a Texan and not
even an American."
Family of Secrets goes deep under the cover of the Bush’s relationships with the
oil industry and explains in great depth how the big business financiers and the covert
intelligence machines worked hard to groom George W. Bush to follow in his father’s footsteps,
and to make certain that they keep control and domination over whomever is in the White House.
While some may find this shocking and feel disbelief, I found the amount of work that went into
verification of facts in this book makes it ring true. It was a compelling read by an
award-winning investigative journalist, and I recommend it to anyone who wants a larger
picture of politics in the United States over the past several decades.
