First let me say
this is a different kind of book to read.
It's an autobiography but in an unconventional format, to say the
least. Kelly used to write speeches for a living and so this story
is, well, FULL OF Capitals, [brackets], and italics for a reason.
You see she writes for the ear and not the eye. And believe me,
you really hear the words jump off the pages. Kelly is an unusual
woman. She has had her share of unusual experiences. And, although
some of them are really a little serious, you can't help but smile
when you hear her story. She made it through near-death and other
interesting episodes, and as she says, "I'm still standing."
And, of course, her name says it all because her name is Standing.
How convenient.
You will enjoy this memoir and laugh along with her as she describes
her grandmother and her father. You can see where she gets her sense
of humor.
For those of you have a particularly strong opinion about rape
and abortion, the chapter on this aspect of her life may be offensive,
but honestly, I found it really funny how she broke the news to
her mother after the fact! It certainly took the bite out of it.
So, enjoy this uniquely fascinating story, and lighten up!
