JEFFERSON
ABROAD By Thomas Jefferson (ed. by Douglas L. Wilson and Lucia C. Stanton) Modern Library - August 1999 ISBN: 0679603190 Nonfiction / History / Biography Reviewed by: George Weeaks, MyShelf.Com Buy It Here Jefferson Abroad is a fascinating collection of 82 correspondences by Thomas Jefferson from November 1784 to March 1789. They were written when he served in France as the representative of the American Congress. They are addressed to those such as George Washington, James Madison, John Adams, and to his wife Pasty. Also included are notes of field trips while in Southern France. This is a smorgasbord of knowledge. He knew many and was able to glean from many ways of life, this made it a very very interesting. In reading his words from the 1700's gives a person a sense of stability that our country lacks at this time. Mr. Jefferson wrote balance, truth, kindness and strength where as now days it seems all we hear are big words that aid in politically run around without much truth. |
