This volume claims to include 160 new recipes which will transform the purchased cake mix
(with other ingredients) into luscious cakes, brownies and cookies. There is a hint-filled
introduction, written in the author's friendly prose, which is excellent. (The introduction,
not the prose) The recipes are simple and are accompanied by thumbnail color photographs with
the page number making it easy to find the recipe desired. There is additional advice
included with each recipe making it easy for even a newcomer to the art of baking.
Many of the recipes have been contributed by fans. They include lemon chiffon layer cake
with raspberry filling made with yellow cake mix, frozen lemonade concentrate and raspberry
pie filling; double coconut macadamia cake featuring yellow butter cake mix with vanilla
instant pudding mix; and more. Getting hungry?
The only complaint is that many of the recipes are just revised from recipes in her
earlier book (The
Cake Mix Doctor) So if you have the original book you really don't need this one.
However, just reading the recipes and the accompanying advice whets the appetite and instills
in the reader the urge to run to the kitchen and start baking.
