Jan Karon, author of the heartwarming and inspirational Father Tim/Mitford series has created a unique cookbook. It combines narration with the recipes. The more than 150 mouthwatering recipes have appeared in more than 15 of her books. We are treated with exact scenes in Karon's stories when each dish is enjoyed. Each recipe is presented in the order of its appearance in the Mitford series.

There are main course meals, basic side dishes, desserts, beverages, breads, There is Marge's deep dish apple pie, Tim's beef tenderloin, Lew Boyd's chocolate cake, Louella's buttermilk chess pie, Esther Bolick's orange marmalade cake (You haven't lived until you have had a slice of this!) and even dog biscuits. The recipes are easy to follow; the ingredients easy to obtain. The book is also filled with quotations, recollections and reflections from the author's life.

This review is based on the paperback which was a gift to me. I must admit that I succumbed to temptation and purchased the original hardcopy(24.95). This is a beautiful book with colorful illustrations.

Either edition will be an excellent addition to the cook's library.
