This cookbook features tried and true recipes with a twist: each recipe is designed for gluten-free diets and/or people who have allergies to other foods. One of my family members is gluten-intolerant and allergic to soy, while another needs to watch sugar intake, making this a perfect cookbook with delicious meals for the entire family.

Marlisa Brown is a registered dietitian and nutritional consultant who has tested each recipe and provides her favorite selections of delicious food for virtually every occasion. These recipes are fast becoming my favorites as well. The recipes vary from breakfasts, salads and soups, to main meals, and even breads, biscuits, sweets and treats – all gluten free!

While I haven’t tried all the recipes, I’ve tested and found several favorites in her “Cooking for a Crowd” and “One-Dish Dinners” sections, such as Buckwheat Pancakes with Cinnamon, Spring Rolls, Baked Sweet Potato Fries, Sole-Saint-Tropez Tilapia with Salsa, Grilled Salmon with Balsamic Glaze, and even Shephard’s Pie. These are just a sampling of the variety of recipes in this cookbook. I also love to bake bread and cakes, and appreciated her instructions for making great tasting gluten-free, wheat-free flour (such as combining tapioca flour and potato starch to make an outstanding tasting French bread).

The real value of this cookbook is the listing of the allergens for each recipe, and her recipe index makes it easy to find meals free of milk, eggs and peanuts, etc., as well as special meals for vegetarian and vegan diets. Marlisa Brown provides great notes on various ingredients and nutritional information for each recipe, as well as special tips.

The Gluten-Free, Hassle-Free Cookbook is a wonderful addition to every kitchen. The delicious and varied recipes, some of them favorites in many families, will certainly please every appetite.
