Destined to wear a uniform.

Bob Ruble quit high school to join the United States Marine Corps (USMC), where he was hoping for Korea, but instead was selected to be a Drill Instructor at Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD), San Diego. In 1956, he was transferred to MCRD, Parris Island, South Carolina, as a Drill Instructor.

Ready for a change but not ready to shed a uniform yet, he joined the Tampa Police Department and was assigned to the Traffic Division as a Motorcycle Officer. He received a citation for aiding a heart attack victim at the Tampa airport. But longing for pride of being a Marine, re-enlisted and went on to serve over twenty years in the USMC. He held the position of Tank Commander with the 1st Tank Battalion in Vietnam during 1966 and 1967. After Vietnam, he again changed the direction of his military career. He served ten years in the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) and a subsequent tour in Vietnam. Upon retirement from the USMC, he served in a variety of law enforcement agencies, capping his career as Chief of Police in Kennesaw, Georgia from 1980-1986. In 1982 the Mayor and City Council of Kennesaw, passed a controversial law wherein all of their citizens armed themselves against the criminal element. Ruble was the spokesman for that gun law that was passed.

While working fulltime as the Chief of Police, he enrolled in Brenau College in Gainesville, Georgia. He worked in the day and went to college at night. He was able to teach his history class a few things about Vietnam, as well. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree when he was 51 years old.

Military honors include: The Navy Commendation Medal with Combat "V"; The Unit Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm. Police certifications include: P.O.S.T. Certified Executive Level; Radar Instructor; Forensic Hypnotist. Police Honors include: attendance at the FBI National Academy, 129th Session; Georgia State President of the National Association of Chiefs of Police; 11th District Vice-President of Georgia Chiefs of Police; J. Edgar Hoover Memorial Award for Distinguished Police Service; 1983 Americanism Award from Citizens Offering Police Support (COPS); The James Madison Award for Excellence in Journalism for the newspaper article "A Tale of Two Gun Cities"; and was listed in both the 1980 and 1983 editions of WHO’S WHO IN AMERICAN LAW ENFORCEMENT, and the 1986 edition of MEN OF ACHIEVEMENT.
Ruble has since retired, and now wears another uniform, his fishing hat. He lives with his wife Kam, who is his true love and soul mate. And with her continuing inspiration, he is able to find in himself, the writer he has always longed to be.

Excerpt from Chapter 1

Still anguished, David sat in silence as the darkness of the night filled the room.  Not only was this his office, but it was his favorite room when he wanted solitude.  There was but a sprinkle of moonlight that filtered through the closed window blinds and bounced off the ornate brass objects that adorned the furnishings.  David didn't need light as he had spent many hours in his office, so the surrounding images were indelible in his mind.  Even if his eyes were closed, he could envision the deep brown walnut shelves that lined the walls matching his credenza and executive desk in perfect tones and style.  He could almost feel the velvet-like texture of his high-back chair that sat in its area behind the desk, as if it were waiting for him.  In front of him sat the black leather couch that had comforted many of his patients when he counseled or hypnotized them.  Sinking into the plush, red leather chair in which he sat, he took comfort in the extravagance that surrounded him.

With a glass of warm bourbon in one hand and a cigarette in the other, an open bottle of Canadian Club rested at his feet to further feed his grieving mind and relieve his mournful soul.  The tragedy that led to his wife's death had placed his life on hold.  Her death shocked the city of Mt. Pride and rocked the wealthy area, High Cliff Estates, in which they lived.

Bereavement was sufficient explanation, for the patients whose appointments with their beloved doctor had been canceled.  Only David, himself, knew the fire of hate and revenge that burned within him.  He deeply mourned Ann's betrayal and deception more than he did her death.  David poured himself another drink.  Memories of the past filled his mind as the web that summed his life spun before him.

‘Have No Mercy’ is classic story of revenge. Two boyhood friends-- David, a shy loner, and Todd, a charismatic con man--turned into bitter enemies and will do anything to get even with each other. After a big blowout that took place when they were in their twenties, they had hoped to never see each other again, but now their lives are about to collide in a very unpleasant way.

After a chance encounter the hatred has resurged, as if it had never been gone. However, the revenge plot that is hatched will involve more people than just these two men and ruin many lives. Once the two are consumed with this hatred, there is no stopping the evil consequences.

‘Have No Mercy’ is one of those books that is hard to review because I don't want to give anything away and even small details are important in this book. Ruble makes every word count, and judging by his word usage, his love for them is obvious. My favorite part of this book are the descriptions of the lavish houses and the spectacular get-aways. The main characters are expertly crafted and while I would have liked to get in David's head a bit more, the actions are suitable to each person. This is a very entertaining book that makes me hope I don't have any friends like David or Todd!

Rennie's Coffee & Dessert Recipes

Matt and Rennie, from HAVE NO MERCY, own a chain of coffeehouses, all across the country named Cully's Coffee Cup Coffeehouse.

From the Author

Why did I choose the coffee business for my book? My wife, Kam, and I owned and operated a gourmet coffee shop in Estes Park, Colorado. Because of Kam’s abundance collection of clowns, she decorated the store with them, and we named our shop, The Coffee Clown™.

While we were in the coffee business, Kam wrote a recipe booklet for gourmet flavored coffees; and desserts that would compliment each kind of coffee. Each and every recipe she experimented with, I had to be the guinea pig and do the taste testing. Some were so gross . . . Well, let me just say that there were times when I wondered if I should have cancelled my rather large, life insurance policy, or least taken her name off of it as the soul beneficiary. I loved to tease her about the flops. Every time a customer was purchasing one of Kam’s recipe booklets, I had to be sure to mention that they were helping to pay for my doctor bills from food poison! Today, we still laugh about those taste tests.

We still sell the booklet, Kam’s Koffee Kollage of Drinks and Dessert Recipes. However, since the last printer printed up 100 copies with the wrong title (he omitted the word Dessert for some reason), we only charge $5 for it now. And, from time to time, I post some of the recipes on my web site for people to enjoy free. For anyone wanting the free recipes, they can go to my web site http://www.bobbyruble.com/. On the right side of the page is the index: click on Coffee & Dessert Recipes.
So, as you can see, writing about something I had experienced in my life, came easy.
