More Than Courage
Sicily, Naples-Foggia, Anzio, Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace, Central Europe: The Combat History of the 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment in World War II
by Phil Nordyke
This fascinating book chronicles the World War II combat history of the 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment which
engaged in 281 days of frontline combat and made combat jumps at Sicily, Salerno and Holland. The men of the 504th
also fought in the rugged mountains of Italy, made a beach landing at Anzio, endured brutal combat in the Belgian
Ardennes and carried out assault crossings of the Waal and Rhine Rivers.
Units of the regiment were awarded four Presidential Unit Citations for actions during the fighting at Salerno,
Anzio, Holland and central Germany.
Drawing on personal interviews, oral histories, and unpublished written accounts from more than 300 veterans of
the 504th RCT, the author tells the remarkable story of what it was like to be part of the elite group of
individuals. |
