Historic Photos of Raleigh-Durham

by Dusty Wescott and Kenneth E. Peters

Historic Photos of Raleigh-Durham takes an interesting look at how the cities of Raleigh and Durham, NC were developed. It starts with the tobacco factories and the famous retail center on Fayetteville Street.  It shows the development of Duke University and other known colleges in the area. The high quality black and white photographs that are used are taken from several different archives, which are listed in the back of the book.

People who are not familiar with the history of Durham and Raleigh would find this book interesting due to the rich history that both of these cities have. People who reside in either city or nearby would probably learn something about these cities that they did not otherwise expect.

Several pictures include historic buildings that were burned or destroyed and are no longer in existence. Historic Photos of Raleigh-Durham allows people to virtually tour the historical areas of Durham and Raleigh and to see how they are these days compared to the days of old.
