The Masonic Myth is a really great book that finally gets down to the nitty-gritty of Freemasonry.
FINALLY, the truth is being told about this group of movers and doers and the meaning behind all
the myths that have followed them since before the days of Christ. For eons there have been stories
and lies and grand schemes and all sorts of kinds of contamination that has been linked to being a
Mason or a member of any of the Craft Rites and Lodges. This book goes in-depth to tell the truth,
nothing but the truth, and it took an author like Kinney to put it all together in one easy to read
compilation.
I found this book compelling and interesting, not only because it goes into the history of
Freemasonry and all the reasons for every single one of the myths, but also because it is concise
and honest. I can say that because I come from a family of Masons, I know firsthand about the
Lodge and all the things that happen to men who join this august group who are doing everything
they can to make themselves better men. Thus, by becoming part of the family of Masons, they
make better lives for their families in many ways, much to the surprise of themselves and those
who love them. There was a LOT of information that, even though I was raised around Masons, I did
not know and had no way of finding out. For that really good reason, I recommend this book to
anyone who wants to know more about the Craft and what drives the men inside of the Lodge.
Much in the history of America involves the Masonic family. Our Founding Fathers, many of
whom were Masons, penned the Constitution in accordance with many of the laws and rules of the Lodge.
Many parts of history all around the world are tied into the Masonic Myths and Truths. I could go
into the layout of Washington DC or the All-Seeing Eye and the many ways that you can find the word
Mason written on many items such as the points of the star. However, many other authors and
reviewers have done that and, even though they have done it well, that is not all there is to
The Masonic Myth. There is the Truth inside the myth that has lain hidden for centuries, and now
it is open wide for all those who really want to know it.
If you want the truth, read The Masonic Myth by Kinney. You won't be disappointed unless,
of course, you are looking for more mythology to base fear and loathing on. You won't find that
in this book; you will find honesty and honor inside. This book tells why the men who become
Masons, (and the men have to find the Masons on their own—the Masons never seek them out or
invite them into the Lodge before the man seeks the Lodge out) do it from their hearts. I highly
recommend this book.
