On C Street in Washington, DC, is an organization that promotes “Christianizing” all the leaders of the world so they can bring all their people to Christ. It is an admirable goal, but the methods are hardly Christ-like. Shotgun evangelism will eventually drive many more people away from Jesus than it will bring to Him. God gave us a free choice. He wants willing “indentured servants,” not slaves.

In a shocking exposé, Jeff Sharlett tells how “The Family” has recruited many American Senators and Congressmen to convince world leaders that following Christ will enrich them and their people. Senators Tom Coburn and Jim Inhofe are two that caught my attention, since they are from my home state of Oklahoma. The organization will finance the stay in the foreign countries and set up meetings with the target leaders. But they don’t cover the cost of transportation. Who does? We, the American taxpayers, do.

Our forefathers included the separation of church and state in the Bill of Rights so that no one church could compel everyone to any particular belief. That way, the Catholic Church couldn’t control the United States as they do Italy, France and other nations. The C Street group violates this law in ways unrivaled by anyone.

“C Street: The Fundamentalist Threat to American Democracy” is an important book that every American needs to read. Our government is destroying one of our most important freedoms simply by putting themselves above the same law they swore to uphold. Democracy means the freedom to choose without coercion. Being a Christian is intended by God to be a matter of choice. That’s why He didn’t destroy all other forms of worship in the beginning. While I agree that Jesus is the answer, it must be our choice. Listen to it for yourself and decide what to do about it.
