The book takes one on the journey of a lifetime through the wild west to a miner's dream. It recounts the stories of individuals who left everything and set out against all odds to find their fortune based on rumors of wealth. And there were some.

While the audio begins to take off in an interesting direction with the Gold Rush in 1848 with lively accounts of epic fever, the narration tends to drone. The information is eye opening and fresh with its folklore and intriguing adventure. I did glean some new information from his narrative which caused me to stop and think, but I am not sure if it was the pace of the reader that may have offset my interest. The book may be a better read for some as it may offer the ability to slow down where one needs to and skip what isn't interesting. The storyline is the nonetheless informative and fun.
