Cape Wrath
By
Paul Finch

A group of students led by a charismatic professor land on the small, remote island of Craeghatir, off Cape Wrath in the far north of Scotland. Their mission is to uncover the treasure that they believe lies there--a treasure that once belonged to the quintessential Viking, Ivar the Boneless. Trying to ignore the legends about the island and their own petty squabbles, they start to dig and are not disappointed – there is all they anticipated and more. But it is the “more” that is going to be the problem…

The idea of a group of people isolated from civilization while some terrible force wreaks havoc is hardly a new one, but everybody knows there are no new plots and who cares when the story is as gripping and gory as this one, told in an admirably laconic style that wordier writers would do well to emulate. The tension builds quickly as the team goes from their own concerns and pleasures at the lovely scenery to stark terror when they find they are not alone on the island, and to say more would spoil the story. I hope we will be hearing more of Paul Finch.
