Howling Legion continues the battle between the Skinners and the werewolves known
as Full Bloods. Cole Warneki is continuing his training with Paige, with whom he is now
partnered. He is beginning to learn to control the shape of his weapon. In fact, during a
battle at the beginning of the story, he tried to bring the single end of his spear to bear
on a Nymar. The spear turned itself to the divided end and wrapped itself around the wrist
of the vampire’s gun hand and began to squeeze. Now, if he could just figure out how he did
that...
Cole and Paige were in Chicago when they heard a report of activity in a town near Kansas
City, so they drove there. They found a large number of Half Breeds in various places around
the city. They couldn’t eliminate them inside the city because there were too many of them.
So they mixed bait and spread it all over town as well as along the road to a nearby nature
preserve campground. There, they did battle with all of the Half Breeds in that town, killing
most of them. Unfortunately, they were aided by a Full Blood, who seemed to be building a
massive underground army.
Howling Legion is as action-filled as the opening book, Blood Blade (also
reviewed on Myshelf). Though
the romantic angle does not develop any further between Paige and Cole, the tension remains.
But the battles intensify as they encounter another Full Blood, one who resists sticking to
the woods and wants to retake the areas where humans have built cities. Save for the profanity,
it’s quite an enjoyable tale. Try it, and see for yourself.
