Eddie Archer's
studio is remaking the classic horror film, "The Unholy."
Eddie's son, Alistair, is in the cinema next door when Jenny arrives.
Alistair gives the beautiful starlet a tour of the studio via the
connecting underground tunnel where a tableau of the old film is
located, when a robed killer-the evil priest from the original film-leaves
the tableau and slits Jenny's throat. Alistair faints and is later
charged with the crime.
Madison Darvil designs costumes for the film. Her assistant calls
to inform her of the murder and Eddie's urgent request to see her.
Eddie knows from experience that Madison can talk to ghosts, and
hopes she can discover the true identity of the killer from Jenny's
ghost.
Eddie wants Madison to work with an ex-studio employee, Sean Cameron,
who is now a special FBI agent. Sean and the members of the FBI's
Krewe of Hunters have special abilities used to solve esoteric crimes.
After Madison and Sean arrive at her apartment, Sean converses with
her ghostly resident: Humphrey Bogart. Bogie accompanies them to
the tunnel and to soothe Jenny's frightened spirit, and soon learns
that Jenny didn't see her killer. Neither ghosts nor humans are
aware that someone named Vengeance has planned the murder, and the
revenge is just beginning.
Heather Graham has written an intriguing mystery with just the right
touch of the paranormal and romance to keep me reading well into
the night. I loved the growing physical awareness between Madison
and Sean as they work together to prove Alistair's innocence. The
plot moves fast with solid writing that makes this an enjoyable
read, and the killer's identity remains a mystery until the very
end. I definitely can't wait for the next two novels in the series.
