When
I first picked up NOS4A2, I was prepared to be scared. After
all, Joe Hill is the son of Stephen King, the master of horror
stories. What I wasn't prepared for was just how deeply this
book would pull me into its inherent creepiness. The more
I read, the more certain I became that there would be nightmares
in my future for some time to come.
NOS4A2 is a story about a young girl with an inexplicable
talent for finding lost items. Victoria McQueen is smart enough
not to tell people about her secret way of traveling across
an old and broken down bridge to wherever the lost may be
found. It is draining and eerie, but finding things is her
gift. Unfortunately, she finds her way to Charles Manx, a
man made of pure evil who also has a secret talent - that
of bringing stolen children to an inner world he calls "Christmasland."
Victoria
manages to escape from Charles, but many years later, Manx
is back, and this time he has Vic's son! There will be a battle
of good versus evil and only one of them can survive. Will
a mother's love combined with her magic be enough for Vic
to prevail?
This book has it all, and the author is as much a masterful
writer as is his renowned father. If you want a spine-tingling
thriller to read, with enough horror to make you want to read
this outside under the warm sunlight, then I must insist you
read NOS4A2. It's one book you will never forget, even though
you may hope to.
