Agent
Pendergast is about to learn the truth of Confucius’
proverb that says, “Before you embark on a journey of
revenge, first dig two graves.” The story begins with
a reunion. Pendergast has found that his wife, Helen, whom
he has thought dead, has been found alive. They are to meet
in New York City’s Central Park. But their reunion was
short-lived. Helen was kidnapped by a group of Nazis called
Der Bund.
Meanwhile, police
Lieutenant Vincent D’Agosta has his hands full with
a very unusual killer. The young man goes into a hotel to
kill a guest, but makes sure he walks in front of every surveillance
camera in the lobby. He seems to want everyone to see him
and know who he is. He also leaves body parts behind that
don’t belong to his dismembered victim. Tests show that
the extras belong to the killer.
D’Agosta
would like to have Pendergast’s help, but the FBI Special
Agent is busy tracking his wife’s kidnappers to rescue
Helen. It is a mission he has to do alone. D’Agosta
is on his own, without a clue as to who his killer is –
until he gets the DNA results back on the extra body parts.
This
story is as complex as Pendergast himself. The plot is always
twisting and turning, and involves three separate stories.
Two are connected, one is not. The characters are totally
human; even Pendergast makes a few mistakes. The setting takes
the reader from New York City to rural Pennsylvania to the
jungles of South America. It is fast-paced and the tension
never lets up. So pick up this audiobook, and go for a run
on the dark and wild side.
