Upon receiving this book, I quickly
leafed through it and laid it aside to pursue in depth at a later time.
I found myself picking it up often and reading sections out loud to my
husband or anyone else who was close and would sit still and listen. There
is so much interesting information packed in this book that almost anyone
would be hard-pressed to not find something that interests them here.
Dr. Whiteley is a veterinarian who has practiced for thirty years, not
only as a small animal vet but also with titles as diverse as military
veterinarian, poultry inspector, rabies spokesperson and more. She opens
her book with a brief introduction into the history and evolution of dogs.
Her next chapter covers the relationships between human ands dogs. This
may be as diverse as the way a dog relates differently to a woman and
a man or even how some dogs differentiate between races.
My niece was talking about her boyfriend's new dog. I opened "Understanding
and Training your Dog or Puppy" and read her some information about
the particular breed and then about a problem the dog was displaying.
The book is so well laid-out and the index is so through that I could
find these sections easily. I would recommend this book for owners of
new puppies as well as older dogs.
