Denim Mania
25 Stylish Ways To Transform Your Jeans
by Sistahs of Harlem Carmen Webber and Carmia Marshall
What is the coolest way to recycle an item of clothing? Remake it into something else to wear, something utterly
unique that makes a statement about YOU. I love books like this, and this is one showing you how to transform
your old jeans.
I love denim too, and hate throwing it away as it becomes a part of you in a way that other clothes just don’t!
If you feel this way, this is the book for you. It is a big subject, and before you get to unpicking or ripping
anything there is a lot to learn. The history of denim and jeans for example, the different styles of garment denim
is made into and different types and colors of denim. Tips on washing, deconstructing, body measurements, items you
will need to buy and other essentials need to be read first and they make fascinating reading too. There is such a
lot to know, but it does not take up too much of the book and then it is on to the fun stuff. There are tops,
skirts, Capri pants, shorts, jackets and accessories galore to make, all using up old denim garments. Expect ripped
seams, raw edges and an edgy type of statement in the main, but there are other ways shown too — something for
everybody perhaps. The instructions are thorough, and they need to be as this is not an easy subject, but you don’t
need advanced sewing know-how to make anything, just the patience and will to get to it. If you are looking for
something different and want to recycle old denim garments then this is a good hands-on book.
