Fast Profits in Hard Times
10 Secret Strategies to Make You Rich in an Up or Down Economy
by Jordan E. Goodman
Goodman slices through the acronym and jargon-filled world of current economics and investments to present an
easy-to-read, easy to understand, compendium of investment maneuvers. After having read this book, even an
uninitiated investment venturer would have a clear understanding of where he needed to start. However, the
subtitle, 10 Secret Strategies to Make You Rich in an Up or Down Economy, is misleading and falls far
short as a promise to the contents of the book. There is no secret and the strategies are nothing more than
common sense due diligence any investor must perform prior to any investing. The organization is a bit
confusing as well. My understanding was that Goodman progressed from most labor intensive investments to least,
but that didn't seem to hold true.
With that said, Goodman offers many resources, albeit most are for-profit web sites that promise, for a fee,
to provide the information necessary to put into play the strategies presented in the book. Though he covers the
gamut of investments from stocks and bonds to buying liens to gumball vending machines and internet ad placement,
he falls short of doing much more than definitions and a cursory look into the workings of the strategies. One
who has ventured into the market or bought and sold a house would find the book too elementary for his tastes.
Nonetheless, the book is an excellent beginner's tool for someone wishing to start investing, although certainly
not enough to use as a manual. And just as Goodman warns with almost every action plan he presents, "Do your
research," the reader will find he will still have to do his research after reading it. |
