The Sewing Stitch Bible
An Illustrated Guide to Techniques and Materials

by Lorna Knight

This is the latest in the popular Bible series from Search Press, and another impressive addition to an already good series. Whether you are a dressmaker, embroiderer, upholsterer or whatever, you can find out about a whole range of stitches and sewing techniques in here, for hand, machine and overlocker / serger work.

In the good tradition of this series, this useful book even explains how to use each page, and the layouts are designed to make the most of the book’s modest size. Learn about needles, the parts of sewing machines and sergers, and how best to take care of them. Stitches are grouped into the three categories mentioned above, as well a large section on decorative stitches of various types. You can find out how to do things like sew on a button, put in a zip and make different seams; as well as learn about the various types of fabric available, what they are best used for and how to work with them. In short, this is an indispensable guide for all sorts of stitchers, but particularly for dressmakers and anybody involved in making items out of fabric. It is not primarily aimed at embroiderers, but there is plenty of use in here for them, too, whether it is learning new stitches, understanding their equipment better or making up the sort of things that you might want to embroider. One for the keeper shelf - beside your sewing machine!
