Fabulous Fabric Beads
Create Custom Beads and Art Jewelry
by Kristal Wick
Tired of trying to find beads to match the clothes in your wardrobe? Why not have a go at making your own
instead? If you do any kind of fabric craft, you will have lots of leftover pieces as well as all sorts of
other embellishments and craft materials, and even if you don’t, scraps of fabric are easy to obtain. All you
need are a few drinking straws and some glue, and off you go.
This is a great hands-on book written by a person who is really keen on making fabric beads. Her enthusiasm
is infectious, and the fact that this is a beautifully produced book with lots of large color photographs helps.
This is one of those simple crafts that are easy to do, but have limitless possibilities to keep it interesting,
as well as being cheap and encouraging recycling of existing scraps. Whatever your craft, it appears that you
can indulge it when you make these beads—rubber stamping, painting, computer design, batik, working with
resin etc. Another bonus is the direct way some of these crafts are described, such as how to use Angelina
fibers. I remember reading through pages in order to make my first piece, but Ms Wick cuts through the fog
of over-description and shows how it is done with a few well chosen words and some staged photographs. There
are projects towards the back, and a section showing different palettes to match a particular color as well as
a handsome gallery of pieces. Anybody who reads these reviews will know how I usually view galleries if they
come sans instructions, but it is easy enough to work out how these pieces are made. This is such an
attractive book to look at too, with its attractive page backgrounds depending on which section you are in,
and abundance of ideas. I think that by the end of the year, I won’t have seen many better craft books, and
certainly not many on this subject. Highly recommended. |
