Trimwork by Jeanne Huber and the editors of Sunset Magazine is one of the
newest do-it-yourself titles in the "Sunset You Can Build" series. Featuring
easy-to-follow instructions and 1,000 photos that take the reader through each project,
these books offer lots of practical, hands-on advice from experts in the field.
Besides being shown how to tackle trim around window and doors, Dad will find information
on how to install running trim and trim for a whole range of built-ins, from bookcases
and cabinets to columns and ceilings. There's also a special section devoted to wainscoting,
fireplaces and mantels, handrails, and hanging doors.
The "Ten Rules of the Trim Carpenter" will be especially helpful to the novice while the
chapter on painting and finishes will make it easier to complete the job so it has a real
professional look. I also found the sidebars that contain information on finishing touches
and offer troubleshooting advice excellent, as were the boxes that list all the tools I'd
need for each project.
Whether it is installing a pocket door, redoing the trim around the fireplace,
embellishing a bookcase, or picture framing a window, the directions with accompanying
step-by-step photos will make the task much easier with this guide.
