Botanical Flowers in Watercolor
Ready To Paint Series
by Michael Lakin
Flowers have always been a popular choice of subject for artists, and here are six lovely
studies to produce yourself. Even if your drawing skills are not of the best, you can put
brush to paper with the Ready To Paint series, an award-winning way of learning to paint.
I have always loved the delicately tinted botanical prints from past centuries, and it is
this style of art the author has chosen to emulate. Rose, agapanthus, calla lily, tulip,
iris and passionflower are the selected flowers, often depicted with studies of stems, buds
and other parts separate from the main bloom. As with the other Ready To Paint books, each
project comes with a list of everything you need, including the paints listed by name and
the types of brushes used. There is no need for puzzling over what happens between each
illustrated step either, as there are so many individual stages, all with full color
illustrations and a short, easily understood caption. I certainly wish there had been
something like this available when I started to paint, but now there is. It is easy to see
why this series recently won an award. |
