Totally Twisted
Innovative Wirework & Art Glass Jewelry
by Kerry Bogert
The subtitle for this book is "innovative wirework and art glass jewelry," which says it
in a nutshell. Twist wires into a variety of shapes, make chains, findings, coils and even
wire beads, then make them into jewelry with beautiful hand blown beads.
All the staged instructions for everything are at the beginning, and they are certainly
easy to follow. You need the right equipment, of course, and there is a list of this before
the instructions. "Equipment" is the right term, so if you don’t have liver of sulphur, a
nylon mallet, tumbler and hammering block, to name a few items, some projects may well be
beyond you. The basic items, such as pliers and wire, ought to get you a long way, however,
and the old saying about sledgehammers and nuts kept coming to mind. There are some lovely
pieces in here, very contemporary and funky, with lots of bright colors and fun twisty shapes.
The projects themselves also come with some staged and illustrated instructions, and good
results ought to be possible however many tools you own. If you live in the US, there is a
handy list of stockists at the back, but overseas crafters might find many of the lovely
beads featured not obtainable. However, with the good instructions you find in this book,
it ought to be possible after some practice to make up your own pieces. |
