If you, like
this reviewer, think Christmas is best celebrated with at least
a few handmade decorations then this is going to appeal. Trim your
tree, adorn your table and find some interesting ways of presenting
small gifts with this useful little book.
This is a fun way to use up oddments of yarn (mostly 4 ply) in an
environmentally friendly way and get into the festive mood during
those long, dark evenings. Every pattern is shown two ways, one
in traditional Christmas colors of red, green and gold and the other
in the more contemporary white, silver and shades of blue, mauve
and pink. Knit a Christmas pudding bauble, top the tree with an
angel or fairy, make a line of Nordic bunting, put tiny gifts in
cones or stockings and (my own favorite) decorate your breakfast
egg with a Christmas tree egg cozy. Patterns feature traditional
(in UK and US) written instructions with notes on materials, measurements,
and needles together with a page-sized illustration. No piece uses
any complex stitches, and as they are quick to complete, somebody
fairly new to knitting would enjoy this book particularly.
