When is a book not a book? When it is in a box with a selection of wools and a crochet hook! This is a craft kit just in time for Christmas from the people who know craft best. In here are the instructions for ten lovely flowers, plus eight skeins of double knit yarn for three of them and a 4mm metal hook. On the reverse of the box (nice and sturdy for keeping projects in and closed with an invisible magnet) it lists what is inside. It also tells you - rather erroneously - that it is suitable for "those new to crochet" but what this actually means is a newcomer to crochet, who already knows the basic stitches, can make it up. Inside the book, you can find instructions for chain, slipstitch and making a row but not double, treble etc., which you need to know in order to make the flowers. If you are buying it for a total beginner, who has never picked up a hook before, you also need to get them one of Search Press' excellent beginner books on crochet as well. However, as long as you can do a few simple stitches these flowers are ideal early projects as they make up fast and look great. Adorn jacket lapels, dress up an adorable baby garment (one of the ideas shown) or trim a hat. They are great ways of using up oddments and are sure to appeal to crocheters of most levels…apart from total beginners. A great idea, and the first of many kits I hope.
