If you
need to stock (pardon the pun) up on your Christmas decorations,
then this book might be a good investment. Because, as the
author states, stockings don't have to just be for filling
to give to children, they can form part of the decorations
as well.
Here
are twenty-two stockings that would look great adorning walls,
doors and even that fireplace. Drawing on Norwegian traditional
motifs and jolly seasonal colors you can make stockings adorned
with reindeer, dancing figures, snowmen, teddies and endless
roses. Personalize them with names if they are to fill, or
just make, hang and enjoy. There are also patterns for a hat,
mittens and leg warmers so you can step out in Scandi style.
This book doesn't teach knitting, but intermediate knitters,
who know their way around a pattern and can read charts, ought
to enjoy these short, fun projects. Turn to the front for
basic instructions on making the stockings, and then to the
individual projects for particular notes. Each pattern features
a whole page photograph, instructions and charts. The yarn
used is a Norwegian woolen to give the stockings a traditional
look (which it does), but at the beginning of the book there
is a short mention of what you can use instead if you reside
elsewhere. I haven't seen a whole book of stockings before
and there are certainly some beauties that are sure to become
treasured heirloom decorations.
