How-To Books/Crochet

There is a pretty motif to make in this book for almost any occasion, from abstract shapes to traditional granny squares, summery beach motifs to Christmas icons. All you need is a crochet hook and some yarn…

Plus some crochet know-how of course, although the front of this book is blessed with an admirable section for beginners and those in need of a reminder. Clear drawn diagrams with captions show all the basics and there is a key to chart symbols and a bit about what you need to buy (not much). Search Press publishes more than one excellent book for beginners, but I think the basics in here are very well done. The bulk of the book consists of the motifs, and these are handsomely displayed on a pattern selector before their actual pages. Motifs go from beginner to advanced, and each one has instructions, chart, size and materials as well as photos of the finished item. Choose from squares, circles, snowflakes, flowers, wildlife, sea creatures and seasonal. What you then do with them is largely up to you, although there is a short section at the back showing what has been done with some of them to decorate various items. Personally I can think of many uses for these lovely shapes; an ideal book for any crochet fan but a good choice for somebody fairly new to the hobby.
