Knit
a bevy of bears and dress them up with this fun book. There
are ten to choose from, plus a range of cute outfits to dress
them in, all great as starting points to get children's imagination
racing.
Choose
from classic bears, a koala, panda, baby bear and more, and
dress them up in a variety of costumes including a superhero
and Scandinavian Christmas outfit. There are accessories too,
such as a sleeping bag for baby tiny bear, a Christmas stocking
and backpack. Many of the clothes are mix and match so you
can dress your bear in a variety of ways, and use up lots
of yarn oddments as you do so. Some knitting know-how is required
to use this book, particularly as many of the bears and items
are knitted in the round on four or five needles. Knowing
how to do this is a given here, although there are some projects
knitted on just two and most of the stitches used are plain
and purl. At the back are some basic core techniques, including
casting on, plain, purl and finishing, as well as a handy
list of abbreviations. More about the multi needle method
of knitting would have been useful as it is used so much.
The book
is well laid out, with all the bears at the front and then
the clothes. Each bear has more than one large photograph
showing it both dressed and naked, with more pictures of all
the items that go with it. My own favorite has to be Olaf
the Christmas bear who purposely knits up quickly and would
make a great decoration as well as a toy. This will be a popular
book with any confident knitter who knows how to manage more
than two needles and knows more than the basics.
