I love to make jewelry and am always searching for new ideas and methods. The first place I look is the latest release from Bead Style Magazine, published by Kalmbach. The new Stylish Jewelry Made Simple is a compendium of 45 chic projects that include stringing, wirework and stitching. What I love most about this new release is that the projects are arranged by color, then technique.

When I make jewelry, I generally have a specific color in mind, usually depending upon the season and the latest fashion trends. I also want to stay in tune with the latest techniques, and this book is chock full of ideas for necklaces, bracelets and earrings that are quite beautiful and easy enough to make for even a beginner. The book also allows those of us who are more advanced in designing and making jewelry to try out new techniques, such as kumihimo (an easy braiding technique to add beads to a single cord), which I had not tried until I found this book. I love the selection of truly unique ideas, such as using pen nibs to make “poison pen” earrings, which would be a perfect gift for authors, writers and calligraphers. My youngest daughter especially loved the “sail away” good luck friendship bracelet I gave her, made from rope.

All of the designs in this book are truly an inspiration for all. I found many ideas where I could use my left-over beads, spacers, leather, rhinestones, chains and findings to create wonderful and unique pieces. I discovered too many favorites to mention, and I’m sure every designer, whether beginner or advanced, will find lots of favorites as well. One of the best features of Stylish Jewelry Made Simple is the spiral binding, which makes placing this collection near or on a workspace quite handy. This is an outstanding resource for one and all.
