Have
fun during those long autumn evenings making your own tree decorations
this year. There are twenty-five projects to make in this book
by five different designers, so something for many tastes and
themes. This is not a book for beginners, and some of the projects
are quite complex, belying their small and deceptively simple
appearance on the cover. Anybody who classes themselves as intermediate
will have no trouble, however, and some are suitable for improvers.
None uses a lot of yarn so are ideal for using up leftovers
from larger projects. Turn to the back and you can find lists
of abbreviations, some UK/US terms (this is primarily aimed
at the UK market) and stitches. These are mostly described in
words rather than diagrams, but there are more diagrams for
joining techniques and embroidery stitches. Good eyesight is
required here as the print is tiny and rather thin, giving it
a gray appearance.
The projects are grouped in themes, each by a different designer.
There are fun characters from Santa’s grotto, sophisticated
red and white Scandinavian baubles, fairy tale folk and animals,
cute snow characters and a white/pale selection of tree, snowflake
etc. Each section features a page of photographs showing each
item, and additionally there is a page-sized picture of every
finished piece. Projects are in written form with size, list
of what you need and full instructions. The individual pieces
are written consecutively so one starts when another stops,
keeping down the size of the book. The whole range will please
modern tastes and traditionalists alike and is sure to have
wide appeal.
