Make
a beautiful heirloom quilt comprising of fourteen different
blocks, or fill your house with table runners, pillows, wall
hangings, other quilts and more. Learn how to stitch a variety
of flowers in appliqué and embellish further with butterflies
and dragonflies.
With its black background and brilliant colors, this truly is
a feast for the eyes; I love the Jacobean style of the flowers
and its rich tapestry style appearance like something out of
a stately home. This perhaps makes it sound difficult, but with
a generous amount of staged photographs and plenty of instructions,
it is not beyond the scope of anybody who has the basics of
sewing and quilting. Before tackling the individual motifs is
a useful chapter entitled “The Basics” which tells
you what you need to know, a crash course in appliqué.
The flowers include many garden favorites from passion flowers
to roses, lilies, asters, peonies, dahlias and tulips, to name
a few. Each flower includes a diagram of how to arrange the
pieces and photos showing how to sew them down. Broken up into
easy stages, it is possible to combine the motifs into the wonderfully
advanced looking projects with their jewel colors. Some quilting
know-how is needed to make these as staged photographs are not
given here, only for the flowers which are the focus of the
book. This is a beautiful collection of projects sure to appeal
to a wide variety of quilters.
