Learn
how to use a flower loom and make eight beautiful accessories,
as well as learning to make five different types of flower.
You will need to be a moderately proficient crocheter as well,
but anybody with the basic skills ought to be able to produce
something special without too much effort. The loom featured
is the Hana-Ami Flower Loom from Clover, although if you have
one of the cheaper varieties that look much the same you will
have similar results. The book opens with some excellent instructions
on loom use, illustrated with some clear diagrams on how to
put it together and use the various looms, finishing off, darning
and more. Several patterns are given for using the different
shaped looms and layering up the sizes, which is also helpful.
The projects are for a pretty clutch purse, graceful shawl,
jewelry, scarf, cowl, ear warmer and beret style hat. All are
adorned with flowers or have them incorporated into them in
rather neat ways, and show how versatile the loom can be. Each
project has the pattern in written form together with a large
photo of it being used or displayed very visibly. The patterns
have a skill level, finished size, gauge, materials list and
full instructions. Skill levels would suit an improver to intermediate
level crocheter, and instructions for how to crochet are not
given, as this is a book of patterns. At the back there is a
handy page giving a refresher course on stitches used for anybody
needing a memory jog, but more help can be obtained if you visit
their website. There is also a metric conversion chart and list
of abbreviations, as well as a list of how stitch names differ
in the UK and US. I have had a simple loom since childhood and
never imagined that so many items could be made with the flowers;
this is a useful, well produced booklet and a good reason to
invest in a Clover loom.
If you cannot find a good range of yarns locally visit www.searchpress.com
for a list of suppliers.
