Crochet
eight pretty doilies using size 10 crochet cotton in this
new pattern book from Annie’s Crochet. This is not a
book where you can learn how to crochet if you have not previously
done any, but a book of patterns. However, turn to the back
and there is a whole page showing the basic stitches in clear
diagrams plus a handy list of stitch abbreviations, and over
the page a metric conversion chart. There are also lists for
yarn conversion (metric to imperial and vice versa) and the
differences between stitch terms in the US and UK. The patterns
themselves make up the rest of the booklet and all feature
a page sized photograph showing the finished item in use plus
written instructions (no charts), lists of special stitches,
gauge, finished size, skill level and materials. The sizes
vary between 6” and 13” and all the skill levels
are beginner or easy. The doilies are the work of several
designers and vary a lot in style from very lacy web-like
circles to stars and other fancier shapes. Various colors
of thread are used but all size 10 (Aunt Lydia’s Classic
Crochet Cotton) and size 6 or 7 hooks. This is a very pretty
pattern book ideal for those with some crochet experience.
