From
Jesus to Christianity
How
Four Generations of Visionaries and Storytellers Created the New
Testament and Christian Faith
By
L. Michael White
The
origin of Christianity has always been a touchy subject, but with
advances in technology, more objective scrutiny, and archeological
discoveries, White has put together a compelling book of information
about how Christianity evolved from being the idea of a humble peasant
to being one of the biggest organized religions in the world. From
the underground churches to the exquisite architectural masterpieces
that are historical milestones in the practice of Christianity,
White covers every area of the “who, what, when, where, why,
and how” of the history of Christianity.
Having
always been fascinated with theology, I was thrilled to see the
amount of information White has included about other faiths like
Judaism and Gnostic Orthodox that have had great influences on what
Christianity has become. I’ve been studying about Gnostic
Orthodox faith and their ties to the Christian religion for more
than two years now and the information White has given the readers
is the kind of information theological buffs like me drool over!
White has done an impressive job with such a controversial piece.
I will warn that this not the type of book most hard-core Christians
would find as appealing. It is very objective and does play devil’s
advocate in some areas. All in all, from a historical and theological
view, it’s an incredible read that’ll get anyone thinking
about what it is that they really believe.
