50/50
Secrets I Learned Running 50 Marathons in 50 Days—and How You Too Can Achieve Super Endurance!
Author and Narrator Dean Karnazes
Whether you are a runner or not, this is an amazing story of a monumental achievement by a man who lives for his
sport. Dean Karnazes really didn't take up running until his 30th birthday, and that night, he ran 30 miles...one
mile for each year. His life was forever changed. He began running marathons and was ultimately approached by a
sponsor to run an endurance event of 50 marathons in 50 days, in 50 states. To someone like me, one marathon sounds
totally impossible, but to Dean, this was an exciting challenge.
I thoroughly enjoyed his narration of the Endurance 50 as he took me through each marathon, and each struggle to
run the next day on as little as four hours of sleep. The narration of each marathon is interspersed with his secrets
and advice for athletes at all levels of competition, including tips on eating, hydration, recovery and cross training
for ultimate conditioning. The marathons were run with as few as nine runners, and as many as 38,000. The logistics
were daunting, and the preparation took 15 months.
I can't begin to relate to his motivation to run every day, but he is a great inspiration to everyone who has a
dream. While this audio didn't inspire me to run a marathon, I will think of Dean whenever I am tempted to forgo
my daily exercise regimen. |
