Saturdays With Stella
How My dog Taught Me to Sit, Stay, and Come When God Calls
by Allison Pittman
Stella is a divine puppy who dropped into the lives of Allison Pittman and her family. Al decided to enroll Stella
in a dog obedience class offered at the local pet store. As we journey through the weeks of obedience training we
see from Stella how these lessons are really for us as well. The first lesson at dog obedience school is just being
still. To just be quiet, still, and settled in our master's presence. This is a good lesson for us Christians too,
to trust and to feel settled in the presence of God just as Stella did in her master’s presence.
Learning to sit for sitting's sake. The only way to hear Jesus is to sit at His feet. The "Down" command means
surrendering. Giving up control and handing everything over to God. Learning the "Drop It" command. Hasn't my
Master asked me to drop a lot of things that do nothing but hinder my relationship with Him? Heeding His command
to "Follow Me". How often have I trembled at the end of my leash as Stella did? How often has God extended grace
to me even though I wasn't following each command, just as Al did for Stella?
Saturdays With Stella is a wonderful walk with Stella through her dog obedience classes. Stella may have
learnt a lot but she continues to teach us even more. I can't recommend this book enough for any and all Christians
who own dogs, can relate to dogs, or just plain love dogs. It's amazing how much they teach us in life. They truly
are a blessing sent from God to teach us some very valuable lessons.
I was especially touched by Allison's grace towards Stella and could see God in it. This book is amazing! I
enjoyed the beautiful pictures of Stella at the beginning of each chapter and am grateful to Allison Pittman for
allowing me to take this journey with both her and Stella. |
