Carl Kerby
very successfully uses an analogy of a beautiful mosaic and the
way God takes the broken pieces of our lives and molds them into
something worthy of His approval in Reasons for Hope: In the Mosaic
of Your Life.
The first part
of the book is all about rocks and mounuments from biblical times
and onward, and how they were used as memorials to God and the struggles
these charecters endure on their journey to knowing God. But where
is the Kerby story?
As the reader
begins to read the story of Kerby's broken life, he is reminded
of the material in the introduction and the similarities between
the two. The reader is confident that God is going to arrange those
broken parts for the author and mold him into a child of God.
Many readers
may not agree with some of the extra material that the author includes.
His complete disavowal of evolution, rather than fitting it in with
God's plan, may turn some readers off. The book may have been better
if the author ended his book with his own narrative.
Having said
this, I must say the introduction with the stones and mosaics plus
the story of his life was very informative and enlightening and
did well in carrying the message.
